A Walk Through the Exam Day - PLAB 1

Hello, I'm Dr. Niharika Koushik, an IMG from India, I finished my PLAB 1 in February 2023, and in today's blog, I will walk you through the exam day.

I was apprehensive the week leading to the exam. I couldn't even sleep well on the night before the exam, so this is an attempt to give you an idea of what to expect on D-day so that you will be more assured than I was.

The first thing you need to do is read the final confirmation email (it comes at least a week before the exam day) 2-3 times to list out all the documents and items you have to carry.

This was my list:

1. Confirmation letter

2. Registration letter

3. Passport

4. Hb pencil, eraser, sharpener

5. Self-declaration form

6. Clear water bottle

7. 1-2 fruits

Yes, it is a paper-based pencil exam; you don't need to carry a pen at all. We were given water bottles at the centre itself.

I reached the venue 1.5-2 hours in advance and sat in the lobby with the other aspirants trying to cram in whatever I could in the last few minutes just so that I could keep my mind occupied.

Half an hour before the exam started, we were asked to line up in front of the exam room and were allowed in one by one. They matched us with our passports and let us in. The exam room had one clock in the center, and we were instructed that we won't be allowed outside the room 30 min after the exam started and 30 min before it ended for the benefit of everyone.

Read the instructions on the booklet and write your registration number on it. The booklet will look huge, but it just has a lot of data and lots of space with about 2-3 questions on a page, interspersed with long and short questions alike. Don't worry; it's just the length of the mocks you practice. The answer sheet has rectangular boxes with your name already printed on them, so you just need to dive right in.

During the course of the exam, we had to sign the attendance form, and for the rest of the time, we weren't interrupted except for the last 30min and 5min time calls.

It was a very well-organised and a smooth experience for me; I hope the same for you as well. Now switch back to your books and

Study on!
