All About PLAB 2 Standard Visitor Visa

Hi, my name is Mansi. I am an IMG from India. I have cleared my PLAB-1 in August 2023 and am currently preparing for my PLAB-2 exam. I applied for my Standard Visitor Visa for PLAB 2 from India and in today’s blog, I am going to mention about the most important things to keep in mind while applying for the same.

I will discuss in this blog the following:

  1. When to apply?

  2. Application fee

  3. Documents required

  4. Application process

When to apply?

The earliest you can apply for your Standard Visitor Visa is 3 months before your date of travel. You need to plan in advance to make sure you get your visa on time and are not stuck with visa issues at the last minute.

Application fee

The application fee for a 6-months Standard Visitor Visa, as in Feb 2024, is £115. The waiting time to get a decision on the visa is approximately 3 weeks but could be longer for some people.

In case you want to get your visa sooner for any reason, you have to option to apply for a priority or super priority service. The priority service costs £500 in addition to the application fee and gets you a decision on the visa within 5 working days. The super priority service costs £1000 in addition to the application fee and gets you a decision on the visa within 2 working days.

Documents required

The documents that you submit should be enough to convey your reason for travel, accommodation and finances.

Here is the list of the documents I submitted for my application:

  • Cover letter (Detailed cover letter mentioning my purpose of visiting the UK, complete itinerary and list of documents I have submitted as proof. It is usually said that your cover letter should convey everything that you have mentioned in your application in a crisp and concise manner.)

  • Copy of my national ID (Aadhar card)

  • Copy of my passport

  • A letter from the relevant UK authority confirming arrangements

    • Clinical attachment confirmation from the trust

    • PLAB 2 booking confirmation from GMC, UK

    • PLAB 2 booking fee receipt

  • Other documents related to General Medical Council, UK

    • PLAB 1 passing letter

    • GMC reference number details

  • My academic certificates:

    • Copy of class 10 marksheet

    • Copy of class 12 marksheet

    • MBBS marksheets for 4 professional exams

    • Copy of Internship Completion Certificate

    • Copy of MBBS degree certificate

    • Certificate of passing OET examination

    • Experience certificates from the hospitals I worked with

  • Copy of my full registration with the Delhi Medical Council (State Registration under Medical Council of India)

  • Evidence of family members in my home country whilst I travel

    • Copy of mother’s passport

    • Copy of father’s passport

  • Evidence of home address:

    • Copy of my national ID (Aadhar card)

    • Copy of my passport

  • My accommodation in UK:

    • Confirmation of booking at a local property in Manchester via Airbnb

  • Evidence of funds:

    • 2023-2024 ITR

    • Last 6 months bank statements

  • Documents related to financial sponsorship by father:

    • Letter of support

    • Last 3 years of ITR

    • Last 6 months bank statements

  • COVID vaccination certificate

I worked for one year before applying for the visa and hence submitted ITR only for that financial year. In case you have had a source of income for more 3 years or more and have been filing an ITR, it is advisable to submit the ITR for the last 3 financial years.

Application process:

Start by applying on this website. You will need to create an account and fill all details as required. This would include your demographic details, purpose of visit, financial situation, details of the financial sponsor (if any) and previous travel history. Avoid lying about any details on your application form at all costs.

Next, you will need to choose a centre for submitting your biometrics and pay the fee as applicable. You will receive an email confirming your appointment for biometrics.

You can now upload your documents or visit the centre with documents in case you choose the Document Scanning Assistance service. You will receive a message once a decision has been made on your visa and you will get your passport delivered to you if you choose the courier service or you can pick it up from the centre.
