Hi there, fighters! I'm Mohamed Abdoun, an IMG who graduated from Sudan in 2023. Currently, I'm doing my internship in Saudi Arabia, aiming to move to the UK. In today's blog, I'll share some valuable tips to prepare for and ace the OET exam. We'll cover:
Mental Preparation
Assessing Your Level
Choosing Resources
Crafting a Study Plan
Mental Preparation: Your Golden Key
Mental Preparation:
I embarked on my OET preparation journey amidst challenging circumstances, including a war back home in Sudan. Despite this, I maintained a dedicated schedule, allocating time daily for OET studies. Even if it's just reviewing the exam format or structure, consistency is key. Stay committed, and let your end goal drive you, especially during moments of weakness.
Assessing Your Level: The Crucial Step
Determining your proficiency level is paramount. It guides your choice of study materials and the duration of preparation. You can take the British Council English level test or sample tests on the official OET website to gauge your level accurately. Remember, it's not about rushing to sit for the test but being thoroughly prepared.
Choosing Resources: Quality
Numerous resources, both free and paid, are available online. Personally, I relied on free materials and utilized YouTube extensively. Additionally, platforms like Trewlink Blogs offer valuable insights into test resources. Invest in correction services if needed, but prioritize quality study materials that samillarize to your specific needs.
Crafting a Study Plan: Methodical Approach
Start by familiarizing yourself with the exam structure and subtests. Identify your weakest areas (reading, listening, writing, speaking) and focus on strengthening them initially. Once you feel confident, gradually start practice for other subtests while maintaining balance. Regularly simulate full test conditions using sample tests to track your progress. Remember, OET success lies in achieving proficiency across all four subtests.
